Support for sport and education
Support for education
Our activities include supporting individual students. During our time in African countries, we have tried to privately assist several students in their studies. However, this has not always worked out to general satisfaction. Foundations that operate, for example, distance adoption, have much valuable experience in this area. The whole matter is not nearly as simple as it may at first appear. We would like to learn from those who are more experienced and try to implement this form of assistance in the future. However, we still have a long way to go in this direction. Occasionally, however, we come across a child for whom we dare to reach out to the public for help. At the moment, however, this is only in exceptional cases. This was the case, for example, with the support of Grace, a blind girl who went blind at the age of seven and was abandoned by her parents. She came for an examination at the Rwanda Charity Eye Hospital. Because we knew exactly that the educational institution (Kibeho School for the Blind) to which we were sending her, would take care of her comprehensively throughout her education, we were not afraid to ask for support from the public. (Grace is very happy, by the way, her school results are among the best, and we are in contact with the school authorities, who also send us photocopies of the various report cards).
Support for sport
From 2022, we are looking to partner with the Shoes4Life Foundation. The main purpose of this foundation is to collect (for various reasons) unused or little used football equipment, especially soccer shoes. These cleats are then given a “second life”, especially in poor African countries. On our work trips we try to find reliable football coaches of local teams who have the best idea of which of their charges are in a bad financial situation, and to whom this help is then directed in the first place. The main limitation of this kind of help is not so much the lack of boots and other equipment (in Europe, things that can still serve well for a long time are very often thrown away), but rather the difficult transport logistics. This support is therefore more of a one-off nature, and is limited to the occasions of our individual trips. You will always be informed of current events and collection points in advance on our website.
